Siemens Mobility has started producing its Mireo Plus H hydrogen-powered trains, which are set to enter service on the Südostbayernbahn network at the end of 2026.

The company has also been awarded a contract to maintain the trains’ hydrogen fuel systems. The hydrogen refueling station, based on electrolysis, will be built by Deutsche Bahn (DB) in Mühldorf.

Three two-car, low-floor Mireo Plus H trains — ordered by the Bavarian government — will replace the diesel trains currently operating from the Mühldorf hub. These hydrogen trains will serve eight stations along the non-electrified 32.3-kilometer route from Mühldorf (Upper Bavaria) to Tüßling to Burghausen.

New features include special windows to improve mobile phone reception. According to Siemens, the Mireo Plus H trains will reach speeds of up to 140 km/h and have a range of up to 1,200 kilometers on a single tank, depending on terrain and braking frequency. Earlier reports indicated a maximum speed of 160 km/h and a range of up to 1,000 kilometers.
