Vietnam’s National Assembly has approved the construction of the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Haiphong railway, which will connect the country with China. The project is estimated to cost $8 billion and will be partially funded by China.
The initiative aims to establish a synchronized railway network between China and Vietnam. It includes 390 km of the main railway line and 28 km of branches. The route will pass through nine provinces and centrally governed cities in Vietnam, extending from the Chinese border to Haiphong, one of Vietnam’s largest ports.
Additionally, there are plans to connect China’s high-speed rail (HSR) system with Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi. If this initiative is implemented, Chinese high-speed trains will be able to operate on Vietnamese territory.
